Convoy of Hope helps the people of Mostar

The Bosnian war in the early nineties left the city destroyed. Many will remember the vivid pictures of the famous bridge, the Stari Most that connected the two sides of the city. With the help of our sponsors Convoy of Hope was able to bring in a truck of much needed supplies to help an orphanage and a feeding program for the elderly.

Our partner in Mostar, Jason Parnell gave the following report: “Thanks again for sending the recent shipment!  We divided the shipment equally between the orphanage and the feeding program here in Mostar.  The directors of each were amazed at the amount and the quality of the food.  The manager of the orphanage was very grateful and quickly organized the older boys and a forklift from a nearby company to help unload the truck.  At the feeding program, we were met by a crew of older people who worked very hard alongside us to unload half the truck at their building.  It was definitely a blessing to be able give these items to these local organizations in the name of the Church.  Please express our gratitude to your donors for helping us be a blessing to the orphans and needy people of Mostar!”

There are currently 30 children ages 3-19 in the orphanage.  They have a capacity for 50 and their population varies throughout the year.  The director told us “that their budget is provided by the government and that they only receive 60% of their annual operating budget”.  They depend on donations from local businesses and humanitarian aid workers to help them make up the difference.  All their bread is donated by a local bakery, but other food items must be purchased.  Because of that they were very excited to receive such a large shipment of quality food items.  These are items that they will definitely use and that the children will enjoy eating.

“The feeding program, focuses primarily on elderly people who are unable to work and whose government pensions are inadequate to live on.
