The Convoy of Hope Europe team arrived in Albania on a Wednesday afternoon…..the land was arid and dry. Albania is a very poor country where the typical monthly wage for a teacher in a remote village is 250 US dollars per month.
For our first social action we traveled to a minimum security prison, which houses 350 male prisoners. We assisted a local pastor (Pastor Koli) who had been working in this prison two days each week. The prison administrative head greeted us warmly and enthusiastically thanked us for coming. We were given every consideration and allowed to video all of our activities inside the prison. The team handed out bags of food and toiletries to each prisoner and even participated in a soccer match with them.

During the remainder of the week the Convoy team renovated a local garden and handed out over 400 bags of groceries in Lushnja, as well as a small village near by. One of the most touching moments came when a 70 year old man with a huge smile on his face peddled his bicycle away, his wife on the back and their groceries in her hand.
The final community event took place on Sunday afternoon in the city square. Several hundred people were in the area. There was a clown, games and story telling for the kids, as well as free sandwiches, drinks, popcorn, literature, and bags of groceries. The team also cleaned up the park area. |
