Flooding in Moldova

Moldova has just seen the worse flooding in the last 100 years. It is reported that "due to heavy rain large numbers of homes were flooded. Thousands of people lost everything No home, no clothes, no food… no hope."

Moldova , locked between Romania and the Ukraine is probably the poorest country on the European Continent with an average income of below 2 USD a day. Last year many people needed food aid since the harvest failed due to a lack of rain. This year the harvest has been destroyed by the floods that affected both sides of Moldova along the rivers, Nistru on the East side and Prut on the West side. The water level in those rivers has risen in some places to over 14 meters high. In the villages along side the rivers many houses were flooded and destroyed by water.

At this time the water level is falling down on the Northern part of Moldova , but in the South of Moldova it is still a very dangerous situation

Convoy of Hope has been active in Moldova for a number of years. This year we will need to continue helping those in need. Our staff members on the ground have reported that more than a 1000 homes have been flooded or completely destroyed. Convoy of Hope is planning to send in several truckloads of food to help those whose harvests have failed. In addition they will also be helping to rebuild some of the homes that were affected.

We can only do this with your help. You can make a donation to Convoy of Hope here. Or to our accountnr Giro 60150 in the Netherlands
