More than six months have passed since a 7.0-magnitude earthquake killed upwards of a quarter million people and left 1 million homeless. In the days after the earthquake, Haiti — which is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere — was deluged with help from around the world. Among the first to provide emergency relief was Convoy of Hope, which was already in country.
“Over 1600 people have died in the floods of Pakistan, and 2 million people have lost their homes. At the flooded area there are about three million inhabitants, the majority of which were already poor before the catastrophe. It is estimated that this catastrophe, which is the most severe natural cataclysm in the country’s recent history, affects the lives of approximately 14 million people. The delivery of aid is slowed down because of the lack of resources and due to breaking down of traffic routes. The spread of disease is an additional threat.” (Source: Fida International)
